Because the form is restricting, the ideas burst forth all the more intensely. (...) Have you noticed that a section seen through a ventilator or between two chimneys, two rocks, or through an arcade etc. gives a more profound idea of the intimate than a great panorama seen from a mountain top?
Baudelaire, letter to Armand Fraisse, 18th February 1860
Polo finds that these illustrious word are the perfect definition of the pleasure of writing good lyrics - or rather poetry - within the confines of music. For him it is not so much chorus and refrain than stanzas, verse.
The very fine detail of his work my be somewhat lost on English-speakers, but a sense of craftsmanship can still be felt through the finesse of his wordsmithery and the delicate nature of his music.
Heavily inspired by classic poetry formats such as the double rondeau, he likes to update the style with modern vocabulary, more contemporary characters, to create alexandrines (lines of poetic meter made up of 12 syllables).
And accompanied by the romantic, sumptuous orchestrations of composer Olivier Daviaud, his album is thus both literary and musical, complex and immediate. Listen to his latest album and succumb to the reverie...
